ICE OUT MN

For months, communities across the country, in Minnesota and beyond, have lived in terror as federal immigration enforcement agents have patrolled, surveilled, detained, abducted, injured, and killed civilians, as well as denied people’s constitutional rights by attacking and arresting legal observers and peaceful protestors. Yet Congress has played a pivotal role in funding and enabling these government-manufactured crisis, and they must act to stop these attacks!

Attend a Meet Your Local Elected Official Event

The League of Women Voters of New Ulm will host a three-part public event series this winter titled “Meet Your Local Elected Officials.” The first session will feature New Ulm’s Mayor and City Council members on Monday, January 12, from 7–8 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. The event will be broadcast live on NUCAT and recorded for later viewing on the community access channel and YouTube.

This kickoff event gives the Mayor and City Councilors an opportunity to share their perspectives on key 2025 council highlights, current issues facing the City, the impacts of state and federal decision-making on New Ulm, and the priorities and projects they look forward to advancing in the coming year.

The second session in the series will highlight the New Ulm School Board on Monday, February 9th. The Brown County Commissioners will be featured in the third session on a date to be determined in March. All community members are encouraged to attend these free and informative events.

Oppose the SAVE Act TODAY

The House of Representatives passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act for the second time in April 2025.  The SAVE Act would require citizenship documentation to register to vote even though voters in every state are already required to affirm or verify their citizenship status when registering. WE MUST Oppose the SAVE Act TODAY and safeguard our already strong elections here in Minnesota: tell your Senators to vote "No"!

LWV NU last month joined the LWV MN and dozens of other state and local leagues in opposing the proposed Department of Homeland Security's expansion of the SAVE system - Systemic Alien Verification for Entitlements Program.  "We fundamentally disagree with DHS’s implementation of an expanded SAVE system. Federal law protects all American citizens and lawful residents from improper government use of their data. After months of DHS using the expanded SAVE system without legally required transparency or public input, the League writes with concerns about the utility, legality, and tangible impact of expanding the SAVE system as proposed."
